- TPA participation in the album on the Olympic projects, edited by Hellenic Association of Consulting Firms (HELLASCO)

Introduction by Michalis Liapis,
Minister of Transport and Communication

It has been just a few months after the successful completion of the "Athens 2004" Summer Olympic Games and the impression left tï all of us Greeks is that "we did it". We have accomplished a titanic job. We have organized a very important athletic event ïn a global scale. We have created infrastructure that escapes our imagination with enviable splendor and functionality.

Now that the applause in the stadiums has quieted down, aside from the improved image of Greece worldwide, we are left with this vital infrastructure as silent witness of our success, becoming the backbone for the continuing development of our country towards the next decade. Modern highways, new and improved mass transport media, advanced telecommunication services and high-tech infrastructure constitute our post-Olympic inheritance. As key contributors tï this inheritance we must acknowledge the Hellenic consulting and design offices, the unknown protagonists of this enormous task, the people who designed and supervised the construction and commissioning of a great number of projects.

The remarkable works presented in this Album, have been materialized within extremely unyielding time schedules and most of the times under not so ideal conditions. Nevertheless they were completed successfully owing tï the knowledge, workmanship, skill, perseverance and joint effort of all people involved in their construction.

So today we can be proud because Greek ideas have materialized into vital infrastructure which in turn has changed the face of our country. Still, this infrastructure does not mark the end of the road but simply a crucial turn. Let these works become the impetus for our country to achieve its new national goals with matching success.

Michalis Liapis
Minister of Transport and Communications
