Introduction by Gianna Angelopoulos - Daskalaki
Athens 2004 President

The work of the Greek engineering consultants which is connected both directly and indirectly with the hosting of the Olympic Games has already gained the recognßtßon of the public both in Greece and abroad.

The superb Competition and Íïn Competition Venues, with their flawless planning, architectural design and construction, played a pivotal role the faultless organisation of the Games, and at the same time presented a magnificent stage for all-those who experienced the Games from up close and those who watched them ïn TV and leading to the Athens Olympic Games being called 'dream Games' upon their conclusion.

The work of the engineering consultants also made it possible to show to the whole world the image of a modern Greece, fully capable of successfully implementing large and important projects, possessing formidable productive resources and emerging now as a fully-fledged player ßç the internatßonal and highly competitive eníironment.

Works such as the reshaping of Faliron Bay, Agios Kosmas and Hellinikon coastline, the remodelling of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OAÊA), the fully modern road network and the Rail Transport networks, together with the Equestrian and Shooting Range, the works at Schinias, the Indoor Halls ßn Nikaia, Ánï Liossia and Galatsi and the Goudi sports facilities complex, may have been brought about by the opportunity that the Olympic Games represented, but in reality they were implemented because our country was lacking in them.

Recording this important work in a volume such as the present one has its own value. Nevertheless, the Olympic works brought 10 successful completion by Greek engineering consultants now represent a great legacy for our country and, as they become part of our day-to-day life, offer opportunities for significant improvement not only in the quality of life of the citizens, but also in terms of prospects for further growth.

From now ïn it is up to us all, the State and the citizens alike, to prove ourselves worthy of this legacy.
