.: History

In the late ‘50s, architect and planner Thymio Papayannis returned to Athens from his studies at MIT, with innovative ideas and a clear determination. Around him gravitated brilliant young architects and engineers who were attracted by the new concept of collaborative and multi-disciplinary work, thus establishing in 1959 the first firm of this type in Greece - Thymio Papayannis and Associates.

In 1964, shortly after its foundation, TPA expanded its activities in the fields of urban and regional planning and started undertaking economic and development studies. In 1971, it incorporated departments of structural, electrical and mechanical engineering, in order to cover the demands of complex studies in a holistic way. Since 1985, the firm has been actively involved in studies of environmental protection and management of sensitive areas. In 2002, TPA’s Chairman Thymio Papayannis founded Med-INA, the Mediterranean Institute on Nature and Anthropos, which is strongly supported by TPA.

In addition to its professional work, TPA has issued many publications and scientific reports, thus making its work widely known for its quality and reliability. The firm has also gained many international and Greek awards. An overview of the main events follows:
